What is a Baptist?
First and foremost Baptists are Christians. Like other Christian believers and churches we believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and we seek to proclaim him to the world and follow him in our lives. This is more important to us than any denominational label.
The name “Baptist” comes from the ordinance of baptism. Baptists practice baptism by immersion of those who believe and are of age to declare that Jesus is Lord and Saviour.
Baptists are also known for holding to the authority of the Bible; congregational church government; the priesthood of all believers; religious freedom; the separation of church and state and for coining the phrase “human rights”.
Most importantly Baptists are committed to following Jesus Christ as Lord and trusting Him as Saviour.
Golden Baptist Church is part of the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches in Canada and the Fellowship Pacific.
What does it mean that Golden Baptist Church is Evangelical?
It means that as a body of believers, we uphold the centrality of the Gospel (the evangel), which is the Good News about Jesus Christ. We believe that for us and for our salvation God was made flesh in the person of Jesus Christ and came into into the world. He lived, died and was raised again to life on the third day. All who trust in Him receive eternal life. As a favourite Bible verse puts it: “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” (John 3:16-17)
We hope you will find that GBC is a church that witnesses faithfully and biblically to Jesus Christ, and that within its fellowship you will be able to grow in your knowledge of him.
